Baking a cake is a fun and rewarding activity that you can enjoy with your family and friends. There are many different types of cakes, such as vanilla, chocolate, and apple, and each one has its own recipe and method. However, there are some general steps that you can follow to bake a cake successfully. Here are some tips and a basic vanilla cake recipe to get you started:

1. Before you start baking, make sure you have all the ingredients and equipment you need. The equipment you will need include;

a cake pan,

an oven,

a mixer,

a bowl,

a spatula,

a measuring cup,

a measuring spoon,

a knife,

a cooling rack, and

a toothpick.

For vanilla cake recipe you will need;

3/4 cup (170 g) of unsalted butter,

1 1/2 cups (300 g) of granulated sugar,

3 eggs at room temperature,

1 teaspoon (4.9 ml) of vanilla extract,

2 cups (250 g) of all purpose flour,

1 teaspoon (4 g) of baking powder, and

1/4 teaspoon (1.5 g) of salt.

2. Preheat your oven to the temperature indicated in the recipe. For the vanilla cake recipe, preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease and flour your cake pan to prevent the cake from sticking. You can also line the bottom of the pan with parchment paper for extra protection.

3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. This will help incorporate air into the batter and make the cake rise.

4. Add the eggs one at a time to the butter mixture, beating well after each addition. The eggs will provide structure and moisture to the cake.

5. Add the vanilla extract and mix well. The vanilla extract will add flavor and aroma to the cake.

6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. These are the dry ingredients that will form the base of the cake.

7. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing well until a smooth batter forms. Do not overmix the batter or it will become tough and dense. If the batter is too thick or dry, you can add some milk or water to thin it out.

8. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly with a spatula. Tap the pan lightly on the counter to release any air bubbles. Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

9. Let the cake cool slightly in the pan on a wire rack for about 10 minutes. Then run a knife around the edge of the pan and invert the cake onto the rack to cool completely. You can then decorate or frost your cake as desired or enjoy it plain.
